The Wasa (Vasa) set sail on her maiden voyage in the summr of 1628. She fired a salute and within one nautical mile she began to heel over. She righted herself slightly but then heeld over, water started to gush in through the open gun ports and she sank.
She was built for battle with 64 guns and could hold 300 soldiers, and was intended to frighten the opposition. In the 17th century they had no scientific methods by which to calculate a ship's stability, and the Wasa was not the only ship to sink in this way.
She was raised in 1961 after 333 years on the sea bed and is on permanent display in the Stockholm
This kit contains 16 acrylic paints, poly cement and two brushes to get you started.
