| Description: | 05087 Aircraft Carrier USS Enterprise When it first entered service in 1961 with the classification CVAN-65, the nucleaircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise was the largest and most modern warship in thcompletion of the aircraft carrier Nimitz fifteen years later, all warship constsuperlatives were aimed at the Enterprise. After having been modified several tiits 40 years (d.h. hier kein Apostroph!) in service, it is intended to provide ta further fifteen years service life. The use of atomic power first enabled the Navy to deploy a carrier for longer peindependent of fuel supplies. The presence of a flotilla of escort vessels, whicnuclear-powered, such as the cruiser Long Beach, enabled the formation of an actunit which was in a position to operate rapidly and relatively independently. Thspace on board meant that the Enterprise could carry more aircraft fuel and ammuwas possible for conventionally powered aircraft carriers, such as the Forrestalinstance. With a length of 342.3 metres above the catapult launcher at the bow, a width oand a total water displacement of over 93,000 tons, the Enterprise is capable ofmore than 76 aircraft - interceptors, bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. With four steam catapults, in the case of an alert, these aircraft of a complete squaoff in almost no time at all.
