Airfix Plastic
kits once owned by Humbrol, after much speculation
were recently acquired by Hornby. Airfix have been
manufacturing plastic kits for many years since they
were founded in 1939. As Hornby are to trains, Airfix
are probably the best known of all plastic kit suppliers
within the UK and have produced a wide range of plastic
kit models for many different types of vehicle.

Amongst their best known
plastic kit are the aircraft which range from world
war one planes through to present day. The selection
of plastic kits also include rockets and spaceships,
famous warships, boats, classical ships, many cars,
motorcycles, model trains and train accessories, military
vehicles, diorama sets and figures mostly consisting
of military personnel.
Airfix is a widely popular and sought
after brand by many hobbyists and plastic kit enthusiast.
With the excellent reproduction of famous vehicles,
craft and planes, anyone with the desire and patience
can reproduce their most popular vehicle or craft
to the most satisfactory and high standard.
Fortunately for all plastic kit enthusiast,
Airfix is not dead, although after the collapse of
humbrol in 1996 many thought that that could have
been the demise of this very famous brand. Hornby,
another world famous hobby manufacturer came to its
rescue and acquired the brand very recently.
 There
is obviously some change taking place as hornby stamp
their mark on the plastic kit market, although it
is likely that they will not venture to far away from
the quality and nature of the airfix range that had
served so well the hobbyist for many years.
