X-raid succeeded in building this rally car in just 12 months. The largest difference in looks to the Standard X5 can be seen in the large wheelbase and wider wings. X-raid took part in the Dakar Rally again in 2004 and won convincingly in the diesel class. The X-raid X5 is fitted with a three litre, six cylinder 270 hp (bi-turbo) engine. The car weighs in at 1900 kilos, which, according to the rules, is allowed for a large cubic capacity engine of 2,926 cc's. Luc Alphand, from Ski Sport, who is already known as the three-times winner of the Ski Downhill World Cup and winner of the Ski World Cup 1997 drove in the Dakar Rally for the first time in 1998. Together with his co-pilot Henri Magne, he repeated his excellent 4th place in 2003 with supremacy in the 2004 season as the best X-raid team thanks to a convincing performance.
