The Char B1 was one of the most advanced heavy tanks of the thirties. However, due to incorrect tactical applications it was only used singly and therefore made an easy target for counter-attack. During a 10 year period only about 400 of these tanks were made manually. At the beginning of World War II, the Renault FT17 was totally obsolete - it was much too slow and lightly armoured to make an effective contribution of the defence of France.
