This road-going supercar with the fabulous name was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1984. The chassis and also the tried and tested boxer concept were taken over almost unchanged from the 512. However the appearance of the Testarossa differed conspicuously from that of its direct predecessors. As the widest passenger car then on the road it offered a much more spacious interior and with a length of just 4.50 m, its character was determined by the uncompromising wedge shape of Pininfarina's design. The flowing lines had clearly been dictated by the wind tunnel, as had the air intakes to the radiators in the rear mudguards and the air ducts integrated in the doors. This luxurious super sports car offered outstanding road-holding, excellent driving characteristics and excellent suspension. Almost unchanged, its 12-cylinder boxer engine developed 390 bhp for a capacity of 4943 cc (512 = 5 litres, 12 cylinders). Also completely redesigned were the red cylinder heads that gave it its name (rossa - red, testa = head). This luxurious super sports car accelerated from a standing start to 100 kph in just 5 seconds and could reach a top speed of 291 kph.
