In 1786 uniforms in distinguishing colours were ordered for the individual regiments of French Hussars. Like most regiments of hussars, the 9th was equipped with fur cape and trousers in a different colour from the short dolman jacket. The cap with streamers was replaced by a shako in 1802. In the French cavalry of the line - with the exception of the cuirassiers - the lst Squadron was the elite squadron of the regiment. They wore fur caps with a red feather plume. The Hussars were armed with a sabre and from 1786 with a carbine.
