| P-40 Warhawk Over 15,000 P40 Warhawk variants were built between the 1930 s and the 1940 s and these served with the air forces of 28 nations. Despite later unfounded opinions that it was very slow the Warhawk attained speeds of 362 mph, despite carrying an armament of six 50-calibre machine guns and the ability to carry a 700lb externally mounted bomb load. The P40 had without question a performance equal to most contemporary fighters of the day. Today there are only 19 airworthy examples left and it is one of these aircraft that have inspired Hangar 9 to create with it s distinctive shark mouth engine cowling; the P40 E version restored and owned by Rudy Frasca of Urbana, Illinois, U.S.A The P40 is fully decked out in the markings of the famous America Volunteer Group (A.V.G) later known as The Flying Tigers based in China during the 1941, indeed the Flying Tiger logo carried on the fuselage was designed by none other than Walt Disney, creator of Mickey Mouse . This logo together with the Chinese wing markings give the modeler the chance to replicate this famous warbird. This is a model that has sensational sport performance; the lightweight construction ensures manoeuvrability and stability at all speeds combined with the capability to perform superb aerobatics. Designed to operate with a wide range of engines, the P40 includes pre-installed metal retracts that rotate 90 degrees to complete the scale look and provide for solid landings |
