In the years 1618 to 1648, the thirty years' war increasingly developed from a religious conflict into a battle with heavy casualties aimed at obtaining the dominatin position in Central Europe. The mercenary armies of the Catholic League, under their military leaders Tilly and Wallenstein, stood their ground for countless battles until the war turned into aimless pillaging and plundering.
