The Ka-29 combat helicopter was developed from the Ka-27 in 1973 to provide air-to-ground support for Soviet navy landing operations. Thanks to its small size and rotor blades that can be folded up at the sides, it is capable of transport on and take-off and landing from smaller sized battle ships. The cabin is designed for 16 airborne landing troops with battle kit or 10 air sea rescue personnel. The attack version Ka-29 TB can carry a rigid-mounted 30 mm cannon A242 with 250 rounds on the outer port side of the fuselage and various weapons on 4 external hardpoints. Since 1984 about 30 of the Ka-29 TB have been used by the Russian navy.
