The two-seat Kamov Ka-52 Alligator prototype, based on the single-seat Ka-50 'Hokum', first flew in June 1997, and is one of the most advanced helicopters of its type. Designed for battlefield command and control, reconnaissance and target designation in support of helicopter group attack operatons, it has been tested with a large number of advanced electronics and targeting equipment. The Ka-52 is also heavily armed with a side mounted 30mm cannon and a large variety of rocket armaments and fuel tanks. The two crew members are equipped with unique rocket ejection seats, and the type is now in limited production for Russian special forces.
