Kestrel
Designs were established as a manufacturer of
N Gauge building kits for the model railway industry
in the early 1980’s, and were taken over by model
enthusiasts, husband and wife team Dave and Elaine
Lidgate in 1987. They inherited a range consisting
of just seventeen building kits which has, of
course, now expanded to 45 references encompassing
all genres.

Kestrel
Designs use an injection moulding process which
forces molten polystyrene plastic into cavities
which have been cut into steel moulds. It is the
making of the steel moulds which is David’s forte,
and this major interest (and no shortage of skill)
that has allowed the range of model railway building
kits to grow in the way that it has over the years
with perhaps the highlight of the range being
the two larger boxed kits of a town station (at
nearly twelve inches long) and a “north light”
roofed factory. These will enhance any model railway
scenery and add that touch of reality to our layout.

and architecture, from railway to residential,
industrial to agricultural and all are moulded
in coloured plastic with the vast majority being
very simple to assemble.
