To supply the troops in the field with materials such as munitions and lubricantover difficult terrain, trucks with high cross-country mobility are used. In 196Gemeinschaftsb ro (GB) was set up by the German commercial vehicle industry under the leadership of the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-N rnberg (MAN), in cooperation with the firms Kl ckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD), B ssing, Krupp and Henschel, to develop the next generation of high-mobility-vehicles. On 29th November 1976, the first 10-tonne truck milgl Category 1 of the new generation was handed over to the Federal German Army. The MAN 10 t milgl is considered to be one of the best trucks in its class in the world. This vehicle owes its outstcross-country mobility to its all-wheel drive (8 x 8) and torsion resistant box-frame. The MAN 10 t milgl 10 tonne truck, which is driven by a 253 kW (320 hp) 8cylinder 4 stroke Diesel BF8 L413F engine (turbocharged with intercooler and dirinjection) reaches a maximum speed of 90 km/h. The majority of the MAN milgl 10 tonne trucks are equipped with a crane with a 1 tonne lifting capacity, which facilities loading and unloading. The vehicle can transport a total of 10,000 kgwithout and 11,600 kg with loading crane. The max. permissible weight is 25,400 kg.
