By 31.12.1999 4066 of the Mi-8 had been built in a wide variety of versions, 1750 of which were sold in over 40 countries throughout the world. The Mi-8T could carry four outriggers to enable it to be armed for combat missions and received four UB 16 rocket pods. It was also used in this configuration by the East German army.
