The oil tanker "Glasgow" belongs in the T2 class, originally developed by ESSO in the thirties. In 1936, this type was also adopted by the US Marine Commission in order to ensure supplies in the event of war. A total of 520 vessels of the T2 class were built. The ESSO "Glasgow" belongs to the sub-class T2-SE-A1. It was equipped with a 6600 hp steam turbine engine and had a displacement of 21,926 tonnes and a maximum speed of 15 knots. Although the T2 tankers were built by a rapid construction process, some of them remained in service at sea for a long time, even for over 40 years. They primarily carried raw oil, fuels and other refinery products. The ESSO "Glasgow" mainly carried products from the ESSO refineries at Fawley and Milford Haven to the storage tanks along the British coast.
