The clipper "Cutty Sark" sailed the high seas in the romantic era of ocean travel. The vessel was launched in 1869 on the River Clyde in Scotland and carried valuable cargo from there. In 1885 the "Cutty Sark" beat the "Thermopylae" in a famous race from Australia to England. She made the voyage in 73 days, the "Thermopylae" in 80. Even today the "Cutty Sark" still casts the spell of her windjammer past. She lies in a dry dock at Greenwich Pier in London as a reminder of an age in which the seas were ruled by proud sailing ships.
