The Race Touareg is a thoroughbred racing car, which was purpose-built, in particular for the Dakar Rally. The motor sports prototype has little in common the Touareg designed for the road - some contours of the outer shell, the modern diesel technology and some unusual but different capabilities. The Race Touareg not based on a normal chassis, but on a massive tubular space frame, a carefully thought out body formed of tubes made to withstand extremely highly stresses. Thanks to double spring shock absorbers, the Race Toureg can withstand the impassable terrain of this marathon rally, and above all those wicked sand dunes. The Race Touareg is driven by a 2.5 litre, 5-cylinders in-line engine with TDI technology with a capacity 260 bhp. The successful female duo of Jutta Kleinschmidt, winner of the 2001 rally and therefore the first woman in the world ever to win the title in the toughest race in the world, and Fabrizia Pons who can look back on over 25 years of rallying experience, were the best Volkswagen team of the 2005 season and decisively took 3rd place in the overall standings.
